What is the most difficult thing to find on the Internet?   A telephone number.

Far to many companies are using their web site as a barrier to contacting a person directly.

I needed to contact Amazon Customer Service to resolve an issue.  Finding their telephone number is an absolute chore and very frustrating, by design in my opinion.  For those of you looking for the Amazon.com Customer Service telephone number, here it is.

I too am unsuccessful trying to contact Amazon and the merchant who sent me the incorrect product. I emailed Amazon however never received a response. The merchant (Abstract Solutions, Inc. abstract.solutions@comcast.net) refunded a portion of the purchase(college book)and never respond to my last email asking for the 15% restocking fee and shipping fee. I will never purchase anything through Amazon again the service is very poor especially when they make every effort to not publish their customer service phone number.

I have had an absolutely horrific experience with Amazon. I have contacted them 5 times with four different mistakes. The first time, they took double out of my account, for two orders (totalling almost $300). This took almost a week to resolve. Then I find out that they are trying to bill my account again. I quickly contacted them and they said they took care of it. I just found out they re-shipped and re-billed an item I received four weeks ago. Then I call and get put on hold (while at work) for 1/2 now. I am still on hold with them and do not expect to get a supervisor like I requested. I will never ever ever use them again, and I am writing to the newspapers.

Thanks for posting the phone number, for me it was not a positive experience, was sent to someone with a severe language barrier. Accent wasn't the issue. Issue was, he couldn't undertstand what I was asking at all. Everytime I tried to figure a different way to ask the question, he would just give me the exact same answer which did not answer the question at all. Finally it went dead silent, and I was hung up on. I was very calm, trying to be patient I've been in customer service before and know it can be hard. But this level of service is beyond awful, it is pointless, if they don't "get" what you are saying they can't answer you.

THanks so much for this. If I could only get as much out of Amazon. I bought 12 Godzilla movies for my son. 7 were in a set and the set included one of the movies I also bought separatey, because the description of the set was wrong. Then they said they would send me an envelope to send it back in 7-10 days. THat was 3 weeks ago. OH well, I will call again.

I had the same experience, and they still don't think it would be a good ideal to have a consumers number when you are placing orders and spending your money. Thank you for posting this, I know if people go through what I went through they will appreciate you too!

# re: Amazon.com Customer Service Telephone Number 6/19/2006 2:08 PM A frustrated customer
Gosh, I've never been so frustrated with an online store. Usually the first thing you see either right on the top of the page or at the very bottom, is the customer service number; I've placed an order for some books on the 9th of this month. Selected the so called super savings shipping thinking it would only add a couple of days , It's not shipped still (20th) and there was no number to call.. I think this is insane!

I don't think that I will be buying anything more from Amazon.co. I have just been through hell and back on a returned gift item...this service sucks bigtime!!

Thank you so very much. I spent an entire day searching for a phone number to ask two questions. I do not understand why posting their number is so hard. The amazon website is in need of a desperate make-over. It is not an easy process but somewhat confusing.

Thanks! Just hassling with finding the Amazon number myself. Fortunately, it pops up as one of the top few hits when you search for it on Google.

Thanks again!

As far as I am concerned, this is the first time and the LAST TIME I am EVER going to shop at amazon.com.

Their customer service is simply "unbelieveable"! Where is the excellent customer service I had heard so many marketing textbooks wrote about Amazon.com? My first encounter with them really leaves a very bad aftertase in my mouth.

With a customer already irate, spending one hour to retrieve their contact number from their website only to realize their effort is complete futile is simply going to multiply their frustration by a thousand fold!

Have they actually considered this consequence? Are they stupid or what? Anyone doing a basics in marketing or psychology or orgarnization behaviour will know such an impact, and yet it's simply so amazing that they still go ahead with it. For what purpose? To cut cost? and the consequence is increasing the frustration of customers and stressing out their own customer support stuff?

Think about it, these customers will eventually get hold of their number and the first thing they are going to do is to vent all their pent up frustration on that poor customer service personnel. What does this lead to? Job dissatisfact, high abseenteeism and high turnover and a possible lost of customer base are the most likely outcome. Well, I could be wrong, maybe all their personnel are highly motivated, but what are those chances?

Insane, totally insane. And I am an overseas customer. Making me go through all those hassle, that's it, this is my first and my last. And I will spread bad WOM about this company to everyone I know. Thank you, Amazon, for one of the worst customer service experience I ever encountered. Rest assured, you had just lost a very valuable customer who spent frequently in overseas online shopping.

I hope that when I am finally able to contact a live person with Amazon that they will be able to assist me with their mistake on my order. If it wasn't for the other individuals who have expressed dismay at trying to contact Amazon live I would be searching offline to find a contact number.

Perhaps this organization would benefit from searching their database and pulling up several of its books on implementing a great customer service program and make it required reading. Please start at the top and work down.

Mark -- thank you so much for posting this # !!!!!!!!
Winston of 10/25/06 -- you are SO right!!!!! After taking forever to find their customer service #, the first thing you want to do is vent at the customer service representative!!! I feel sorry for these people and think this is THE dumbest way to handle customer service!!!!!

It's may be too late, but I want to opt out of the automatic upgrade for the 12 month membership for $79.00. I was told I'd be able to opt out of the upgrade. I was expected to be notified, but I wasn't.

# re: Amazon.com Customer Service Telephone Number 12/16/2006 8:00 PM BC
I couldn't agree more with all of the above statements regarding horrible service on orders, wrong deliveries, and charges for more than the orders because they charged 3 shipping charges for one order. Now I have had a terrible time trying to find the phone number or any customer service. I will NEVER order from them again.
Thanks for this website and for the phone number.

Yup - they're still at it. 1 undelivered order, 5 phone calls to customer service (after searching & searching for a way to get in touch with them by phone...) an overnight replacement shipment that arrived a full week later, horrible English skills from the front-line customer "service" calltakers, excuses both times I asked for a supervisor (1. they're all in a meeting & 2. there are no supervisors available) followed by miraculous appearances by supervisors both times that I insisted (after being on hold at least 15 minutes each time) & numerous empty promises to make it right. The end result? Numerous Xmas presents for family members that didn't arrive in time to be sent to them for Xmas (I ordered on 12/9), and Amazon's loss of a regular customer who spent upwards of $500 a year there who will NEVER return to Scamazon.com. (PS. While this whole disaster was going on, I ordered the same 5 books from B&N to see if I would get them faster & I did: I got them THE NEXT DAY even when I used their free shipping option. Ridiculous.)

Well I returned an item that was sent to me damaged and as of today amazon is saying they haven't gotten it! BS. I mailed it back on the 12 of Dec. I hate them so much i will NEVER use them again!

My boss recieved books that she never ordered to her personal address. After hunting through the Amazon. com website and never finding a telephone number, I did a search and luckily came accross this website (Thanks for posting it by the way) I called them, got through to customer service only to find out that they could not give me the name of the person who placed the order (for security reasons) unless that person was willing. I find it pretty scary to think that someone can just order books send them to your address, without you knowing who the person is and how they got your information. Just thought I would share my experience of Amazon :)

Amazon customer service sucks!
They do not want you calling them!
They do not want you emailling them!
They want your money, but they don't want to hear from you!
I'm rebelling. I'm not dealing with companies that do not allow you to contact them anymore!

# Query w.r.t billing 1/22/2007 1:15 AM Ayyappa
Hi, I am from India and I just paid for a digi cam on Amazon with my master card. The order was processed fine and received the order number. The amount was close to $300 but what I see in my account is that only 1$ is charged and not $300. Is this a checking process where in they check the cc no and then they will deduct the actual amount later? Anyone who can help me with this info. I spoke to amazon support, and they too said the order has been placed fine. Please help

# re: Amazon.com Customer Service Telephone Number 2/3/2007 2:28 PM AO
Why wont the stupid website simply post thier customer service number..If there is a problem I want to resolve the issue immediately by talking to someone through customer service, not by email...the website is ridiculous..I most certainly wont be selling anything on here anymore b/c they take way too long to dispurse the money!!!!AMAZON.COM you SUUUUUCK!

As is a common practice with many institutions a $1 authorization is placed on your card before the actual charge is posted. After the correct charge has been completed the authorization charge falls off your credit account.

# I need the number to Amazon's East Coast Jewelry Department 4/28/2007 2:03 AM Hopefully Engaged Soon
I bought a diamond ring and then they ended up not sending it because the diamond wasn't what they stated it to be. Problem is....my plans were already set and now I need another and need to talk to them. Anyone have any ideas? The CSR said the jewelry department would call me back.....

# re: Amazon.com Customer Service Telephone Number 5/3/2007 5:46 AM Mike Treadwell
Thank You! I really needed to contact them. In reality, I have been a steady customer from Amazon, living in both the US and UK for over 6 years, ordering an average of twice a month. Never had a problem (books, movies, music, electronics) - so I'm a satisfied customer. However, last week, I received an order where the box was just empty (just foam peanuts and my invoice - no product). So I had to call them. Nearly on the verge of hanging myself looking for the number. Came across this. Thanks again.
By the way, they immediately sent out a replacement, no questions asked.

# re: Amazon.com Customer Service Telephone Number 8/11/2007 6:48 AM bob
Amazon Wednesday to get here yesterday 8/09. It doesn't get here yesterday.

samira Md., Amazon.com Customer Service (Md. a name or is this a doctor?) tells me I am sorry that you have not yet received your order. I see that the order summary in Your Account estimated it would be delivered by August 9, 2007 It's been our experience that the majority of late packages arrive just a day or two after the estimated delivery date. Therefore, we would like to ask that you wait until close of business on August 10, 2007, for this shipment to arrive.

OK, but today - no package. So, I write and tell them. Uday Kumar Amazon.com Customer Service tells me I'm sorry--it appears that your shipment was lost in transit. I've placed a new order and we'll ship it to the same address as soon as possible. August 13, 2007 is the estimated arrival.

I email them saying that 8/13 is not acceptable and that they should have 'Saturday Delivered' it so that it gets here tomorrow.

Naga (guess this is like Madonna or Cher - only one name needed) Amazon.com Customer Service says I am sorry that you have not yet received your replacement order. I see that the order summary in Your Account estimated it would be delivered by August 13, 2007. It's been our experience that the majority of late packages arrive just a day or two after the estimated delivery date. Therefore, we would like to ask that you wait until close of business on August 14, 2007 for this shipment to arrive.

It's not 8/13 yet!

So, I respond to Amazon:

I don't think folks even read the entire complaint.

The CSR writes, "I am sorry that you have not yet received your replacement order. I see that the order summary in Your Account estimated it would be delivered by August 13, 2007. It's been our experience that the majority of late packages arrive just a day or two after the estimated delivery date. Therefore, we would like to ask that you wait until close of business on August 14, 2007" This is written to me on 8/10......

This is not Back to the Future - ie, August 13th has not happened yet. This order is a REORDER of a next-day-air that I had for arrival on 8/09 that is not here today, 8/10. It should have been reordered with Saturday Delivery so that it arrives tomorrow.

Naga closes with, "Again, I apologize for the delay, and hope that your order arrives soon."
So, even she is 'Hoping' at this point.

Is the date in India 4 days in advance of the USA?
